HMS II.3 ViBRIDGE is a full-band-capable artificial head measurement system with anatomically correct ear replication, including structure-borne (bone-conducted) sound simulation. The low-noise occluded ear simulators feature an impedance response correlating with that of the human ear. The built-in highly sensitive microphones provide a best-in-class dynamic range: The very low inherent noise of 16 dBSPL(A) makes the head and torso simulator the ideal choice for measuring close-to-the-ear and in-ear audio and communication equipment. Due to the maximum sound pressure level of 148 dBSPL, the artificial head is also suitable for measuring far-to-the-ear transducers in hands-free systems, in-car communication systems, or smart speakers.

The main application for HMS II.3 ViBRIDGE is comprehensive testing of state-of-the-art in-ear headsets that utilize bone-conducted speech to improve communication quality in sending direction. Such headsets can only be tested comprehensively by simulating air-borne and structure-borne sound, both of which the HMS II.3 ViBRIDGE can.

HMS II.3 VIBRIDGE fully complies with recommendation ITU-T P.57 – including the low-noise requirements in chapter 7. The head and torso simulator provides geometric and acoustic characteristics according to recommendation ITU-T P.58 and replicates all acoustically relevant structures of the human anatomy.

HMS II.3 VIBRIDGE enables measurements in sending and receiving directions: While the artificial head's low-noise occluded ear simulators simulate the receiving direction, a two-way mouth loudspeaker reproduces the complete spectrum of the human voice, allowing narrow-band, wideband, super-wideband, and full-band measurements. With HMS II.3 VIBRIDGE, users can create aurally authentic voice and audio recordings for evaluation with the measurement and analysis software ACQUA.

Like all HEAD acoustics artificial heads in communication and audio testing, the HMS II.3 VIBRIDGE features the newly introduced modular concept. You can use one artificial head for all applications by quickly and easily replacing the ear simulators and pinnae depending on the measurement task.

  • HMS II.3 VIBRIDGE is equipped with two low-noise ear simulators and pinnae with a human-like ear canal and bone conduction simulation .
  • The ViBRIDGE artificial ear is standardized in recommendation ITU-T P.57 as ITU-T type 4.4 artificial ear and fulfills the low-noise requirements in chapter 7 of P.57.
  • Due to its modular concept, HMS II.3 VIBRIDGE is configurable as desired for various measurement tasks:
    • Low-noise ear simulators with straight ear canals (HIS L/R LN).
    • Ear simulators with straight ear canals fully comply with
      IEC 60318-4.

Artificial mouth:

  • The artificial mouth with its two-way loudspeaker design transmits equalized speech signals from 50 Hz up to 20 kHz – from narrowband to fullband.
  • The two-way mouth simulator of the artificial head is capable of reproducing high speech levels with low distortion.
  • The acoustic properties of the two-way mouth exceed the requirements of the recommendation ITU-T P.58.
