How to Become a Telecom Master with HEAD acoustics
Duration
2.5-day course
Class size limit 5
Location San Francisco, California
Price $3000
Who should attend:
New telecom, electroacoustic, audio, or validation engineers who need a structured path into communication-quality testing.
Engineers transitioning from product development, audio, RF, software, or systems roles into telecom measurement responsibilities.
Current ACQUA users who can run existing tests but want stronger setup, interpretation, troubleshooting, and reporting skills.
Technicians and lab personnel responsible for repeatable execution who need to understand why each setup and measurement condition matters.
Prerequisite:
Basic familiarity with acoustics, audio, or communication systems is helpful.
Prior ACQUA experience is helpful but not required.
No advanced telecom standards expertise is required.
Seminar Objectives:
Build the practical skills and confidence to plan, configure, run, troubleshoot, and explain modern telecom audio measurements using ACQUA. This hands-on master class connects the fundamentals of voice and audio quality with real measurement workflows for common communication devices and transmission scenarios.
Participants move beyond simply executing a database. They learn how the complete test chain works, why a result looks the way it does, how to recognize invalid measurements, and how to turn ACQUA results into clear engineering decisions.
Understanding the complete transmission path; defining the DUT, interface, direction, operating mode, and success criteria before measurement.
ACQUA workflow fundamentals: Projects, databases, measurement descriptors, hardware configurations, calibrations, assignments, execution, result review, and reporting.
How standards-based requirements translate into practical setups, conditions, signals, tolerances, and pass/fail evaluations.
Core voice-quality measurements: Level, frequency response, distortion, noise, delay, loudness-related behavior, echo, and conversational performance.
Transmission and connectivity scenarios: Practical considerations for analog and digital interfaces, VoIP, VoLTE, Bluetooth, and WebRTC-oriented test paths.
Background noise and realistic conditions: Working with artificial background noise, 3PASS-based environments, positioning, equalization, and repeatable acoustic conditions.
Troubleshooting and measurement validity: Recognizing setup errors, unexpected results, poor correlation, synchronization and delay problems, routing errors, clipping, and test-condition drift.
Analysis, comparison, and reporting: Reviewing individual SMDs and complete test runs; comparing devices or configurations; documenting traceable results and meaningful conclusions.
Guided practical exercises: Configure, measure, interpret, troubleshoot, and present representative telecom test cases using ACQUA and HEAD acoustics hardware.
Remarks:
Training material is provided as a pdf on a USB stick. Tuning results will also be provided digitally. Laptops and front ends are available for all participants.
Available at your location for 3 registrations or more. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 5. In this way, we guarantee each participant individual support and maximum hands-on time with the equipment.
HEAD acoustics, Inc. reserves the right to cancel a scheduled class, at least 5 business days in advance. Your method of payment will not be charged in the event of cancellation, or we will request cancellation of your purchase order.
Registration is possible up to 5 days prior, but payment must be received within 5 business days of the scheduled class.
