By processing the car’s powertrain sounds and synthesizing new sounds, the solution enhances driver safety, strengthens brand recognition, and provides a more engaging, premium driving experience.

Challenge

Xiaomi, a leading innovator in consumer electronics and smart mobility, entered the premium electric vehicle market with the SU7 and SU7 Ultra, high-performance EVs designed to deliver exceptional driving dynamics. While electric powertrains offer efficiency and quietness, they may lack the auditory feedback that some users are accustomed to rely on. Xiaomi sought a solution that would enhance driving engagement, provide intuitive vehicle feedback, and strengthen the emotional connection between drivers and the car; all without resorting to artificial or generic sounds.

Solution

HEAD acoustics collaborated closely with Xiaomi to design and integrate three unique Powertrain Sound Enhancements (PSE) models for the SU7 Ultra and one for the SU7. Each sound profile is rooted in the natural acoustics of the vehicle’s own powertrain, captured and refined through detailed measurements and analysis of both electric and combustion vehicles.

Our engineering team developed a multi-layered, data-driven audio engine that reacts in real time to key vehicle parameters such as speed, torque, and motor RPM. This adaptive approach ensures that each PSE model evolves dynamically with the driving situation — from calm cruising to spirited acceleration — offering both functional feedback and emotional resonance.

All PSE models were carefully tuned to:
