The BrakeOBSERVER software detects brake noise and records and evaluates it. This allows eliminating undesirable background noise in the development stage already. The MMF III recording hardware acquires all necessary data for brake examination while driving. The hardware system is automatically initiated when starting the vehicle. The recording starts as soon as noise occurs. Required sensors can be connected to the MMF III via individually configurable interfaces.

Psychoacoustic analyses facilitate reliable detection
Psychoacoustic analyses provide the basis for detection algorithms in the BrakeOBSERVER software. These analyses are level independent and consider human hearing. The advantage of this approach is that BrakeOBSERVER reliably detects even low, yet easily perceptible brake noise. Different analysis algorithms make sure to detect various types of sound events:
- The Relative Approach algorithm is suitable for detecting tonal sound – such as tonal brake squealing – irrespective of the level, even when embedded in ambient noise.
- Using the Impulsiveness vs. Time analysis, the system detects impulsive sounds such as creaking, clattering and crackling.
Alongside the targeted recording of background noise, the system also continually charts all relevant parameter data such as temperature, brake pressure, air humidity and acceleration. This data is available for the subsequent assessment of sound results. The Noise Event Manager software is suitable for evaluating the measured data and compiling corresponding reports.
