| In order to understand and
ultimately prevent brake noise phenomena like squeal and
moan, the dependency between the occurrence of these patterns
and different ambient conditions must be examined. |
| Typically additionally
measured signals include brake temperature, ambient temperature
and humidity, brake pressure, vehicle speed and deceleration.
Often some of these or additional signals are extracted
from the CAN bus of the vehicle. |
| All these signals are recorded
during the complete test drive (e. g. over hours in a
vehicle or up to days on the test bench) in order to understand
better which conditions are especially crucial regarding
the arising acoustical problems. Trigger signals are used
for the recording of the brake noises by means of accelerometers close to the brakes
and at least one microphone inside the vehicle cabin. |

| Already during the test drive,
the recordings are analyzed using psychoacoustic detection and
correlation algorithms; providing fast feedback to the driver.
Only the relevant recordings with respect to the annoying brake
noise patterns (squeal or moan) are saved and analyzed. |
