Jan Reimes receives 3GPP Excellence Award 2025

We are very proud that our colleague Jan Reimes has been honored with the 3GPP Excellence Award 2025.

The award was presented to Jan at the 3GPP SA4#135 meeting in Goa, India, recognizing his outstanding technical contributions and leadership in the standardization of immersive audio.

The 3GPP Excellence Award recognizes outstanding dedication, technical skill, and a strong commitment to collaborative standardization within the worldwide 3GPP community.

Jan received this recognition for his leading role in the ATIAS_Ph2 project (Terminal Audio Quality Performance and Test Methods for Immersive Audio Services). This work creates a framework for objectively evaluating immersive audio performance in devices, allowing consistent, standardized assessment of audio quality across different technologies and platforms—an essential step toward delivering high-quality user experiences in emerging communication systems.

Furthermore, Jan, together with colleagues from HEAD acoustics, was responsible for producing the Global Analysis Lab Report for the IVAS codec in fixed-point configuration. IVAS (Immersive Voice and Audio Services) is a next-generation audio technology that plays a key role in enabling highly realistic, immersive voice and audio transmission in future multimedia services and communication applications.

The award highlights not only Jan’s personal dedication and expertise, but also HEAD acoustics’ long-standing engagement in international standardization and audio quality research.

Congratulations, Jan, on this well-deserved honor, and thank you for your outstanding efforts for the future of immersive communication!
