The software option 3PASS reverb extends these two software solutions with the ability to realistically and reproducibly simulate room reverberation of a single talker at the position of the device under test in a laboratory.

While an artificial head plays back the direct sound signal, the background noise system covers playback of the reverberation components based on the impulse response from the original room. 3PASS reverb operates with available equalized setups from 3PASS lab and 3PASS flex.

The software option 3PAS reverb in combination with the simulation software 3PASS lab or 3PASS flex, one of the microphone arrays MSA I or MSA II (recording, equalization), the hardware interface labBGN (equalization, playback) as well as loudspeakers and power amplifiers form a powerful complete system for the simulation of background noise and reverberation.

Background noise

Communication devices like mobile phones, voice-operated smart home devices, or hands-free terminals are used in wide variety of acoustic environments. In addition to background noises, the spatial characteristics, in particular reverberation, have an influence on the user experience. Therefore, performance tests of communication devices do not only need to consider background noise but also reverberation. A HEAD acoustics system for realistic simulation of background noise and reverberation consist of hardware components for recording, equalization, and playback. It is controlled via the software 3PASS lab or 3PASS flex.

Highlights

  • 3PASS reverb extends both software solutions for background noise simulation 3PASS lab and 3PASS flex by the simulation of reverberation.
  • The software option is able to reproducibly simulate room reverberation of a single talker at the position of the device under test in a laboratory.
  • 3PASS reverb supports tests according to ETSI standard TS 103 557.

Applications

  • Tests of the voice quality in the presence of reverberation of communication devices like e.g.:
    • Mobile phones
    • Smartphones (with/without display speaker)
    • ANC headphones and headsets
    • Voice-controlled smart home devices like smart speaker
    • Vehicle hands-free terminals
    • Voice-control systems in the vehicle
    • In-car communication systems (ICC)
  • Evaluation of voice recognition performance in the presence of reverberation in communication devices like e.g.:
    • Mobile phones
    • Smartphones (with/without display speaker)
    • ANC headphones and headsets
    • Voice-controlled smart home devices like smart speaker
    • Voice-control systems in the vehicle
  • Equalized playback of reverberation in the laboratory an in the vehicle cabin
  • Development, optimization and quality control of communication devices in the presence of reverberation
  • Development, Evaluation and Optimization of complex noise reduction algorithms in communication devices

Features

  • 3PASS reverb supports existing and equalized setups from 3PASS lab and 3PASS flex
  • The methodology of the software option complies with ETSI standard TS 103 557
  • 3PASS reverb includes a set of impulse responses for tests of relevant rooms
